Counseling, Psychotherapy for Bipolar Disorder

Psychotherapies for Bipolar Disorder have been recognized as providing benefits: cognition, interpersonal( work, family, relationships,school) and other psychosocial parts of the disorder.

Evidence based psychotherapies for Bipolar Disorder include: CBT Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Focused Treatment, and Psychoeducational treatment.

Psychotherapy is effective in helping human problems. Research from Saul Rozensweig (1936) shows that the model or technique used in psychotherapy accounts for at most 15 percent of change in therapy. Research states 30 percent of change has to deal with the relationship between client and therapist.This research shows that 40 percent of change has to do with factors that the client brings to therapy( faith, optimism, supportive grandma-all factors that operated in the client’s life before therapy. having hope,expectancy, and the placebo effect account for no more than 15% of change.
This research has been supported by (Hubble, Duncan and Miller 1999).
