Two thirds of the nations juvenile inmates have at least one mental health illness or disorder according to a recent article. Community programs are cash starved so many juveniles are being treated in the prison.

More than 33 states have cut their budgets for mental health programs for juveniles.
The juvenile prison has become the “care taker” for youth at risk, troubled teens since the 1980′s.

A study showed that there were fewer than nine psychiatrists for over 100,000 youth. Many juvenile offenders are prescribed multiple psychiatric medications as they move around from clinics, to detention halls, and to the juvenile prisons.
