Technology has so many benefits like being able to find out what friends are doing on facebook and contacting people you lost touch with that you are interested in still staying in touch. Video games have an infinite creative experience and teens can connect with friends and play all around the world from their pc or x-box or play station. Teens can customize their play-list of favorite songs and update it in seconds. Adolescents can create videos and post them on face-book or post them on you-tube. Adolescents can look up information on the net and receive their answer in seconds.Technology has an instant gratification mentality which is great when looking for a restaurant on your iphone or a movie time or more. Technology can be amazing, however, it needs to have limits just like everything in life.
Life has many elements in it that require patience and understanding and not immediate results. The process of growing and learning is not instant it takes experience, growth, maturity, and insight. Parents can do a great service to their children and teens by teaching them healthy limits with their technologies.
If moods, academics,homework, and sleep are impacted due to unlimited access to: texting, Pc in room, video games, TV, Cell Phone, Ipod then it is time to set boundaries and turn these items off. Yes…it is ok to not text till 3am..yes it is healthy to go outside and exercise instead of sitting around with technology. yes it is healthy to read a book…yes it is healthy to develop communication skills and spend time outside of your room.
