Pesticide linked to Parkinsons disease

It is extremely interesting to note the correlation between pesticides that are used on the crops we eat and its relationship to Parkinsons Disease.

It makes sense that over time these toxins accumulate in our bodies and impact our organs/ nervous system.

What do you think?

Autism and pesticide

There is a recent study that states their is a link between pesticide exposure and women who give birth to autistic children.

The study examined women who lived near farming areas where a specific type of pesticide was used.

It makes sense that exposure to chemicals would impact our health.

A man who spoke to me stated he contracted a disease that effects his mind and body including paralysis due to exposure to pesticides while working in irrigation.

What are your thoughts?

Antidepressant linked to birth defects

A report in The New England Journal of Medicine found a higher risk of developmental problems affecting the intestines, brain and skull.

The findings could complicate decisions by pregnant women about whether to use or continue taking antidepressants, since untreated depression also carries risks and can lead to smoking, drinking, and other behaviors that can harm fetuses.

Weed...Blunts..Pot....Marijuana

Using marijuana seems to increase the chance of becoming psychotic.

A new review suggests that even INFREQUENT use could raise the small but real risk of this serious mental illness by 40 percent.

Marijuana is the most frequently used illegal substance in many countries, including the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

Obesity...overweight and friends

Obesity can spread among a group of friends like a contagious disease, moving from one person to another in an epidemic of fat.

What do you think? If people feel obesity is acceptable than peers who also believe obesity is acceptable will reinforce these unhealthy habits.

Heart Disease and pollution

Strengthening the link between air pollution and cardiovascular disease is new research that suggests that people with high cholestrol are especially vulnerable to heart disease when they are exposed to diesel exhaust and other ultra fine particles that are common pollutants in urban air.

I believe it is important to move toward alternative energy sources that do not pollute our environment and have adverse effects on our health.

Is the FDA potecting us???

In 1999 the eight priority new drugs the FDA approved in only 6 mos or less included Vioxx-the painkiller withdrawn in 2004 and Avandia and Actos.

"When you are getting paid directly from an indutsry you are suppose to be regulating, it takes quite a bit of edge out of the regulating." says Sidney Wolfe , M.D. Director of health research for the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen.

This group has a publication called Worst Pills, Best Pills and it lists 181 drugs it says you should Not use.

FDA and Drugs

The FDA expects 400 million dollars from the drug industry to finance the approval process of brand-name drugs next year. That distorts the FDA's drug approval process by accelerating availability of high-cost drugs at the expense of a growing backlog of low-cost generics whose approval depends on scarce federal funds.

The drug and health products industry has directed 93 million to congressional and presidential candidates since 2000, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

An army of 1,100 lawyers and arm-twisters has spent over 1 Billion since 1998, more than any other industry, to influence public officials and shape drug legislation.

Hot flash remedies

A 2005 study in the Journal of the American Medical Assn. Reported that nearly 2/3 rds of women who stopped taking hormones experienced a recurrence of symptoms but many were able to alleviate them with non- drug approaches such as yoga and other forms of exercise.

Women suffering symptoms may also find it helpful to sleep in a cool room, wear lightweight and layered clothing, practice breathing exercises and avoid alcohol and spicy foods.

Hormone replacement therapy

The womens health initiative tracked 16,608 women in 2002. The news from this study stated that women taking estrogen and progestin had a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes and breast cancer than women who did not take hormones.

Typically research on medications only study side effects for 3-6 weeks, HOWEVER, women take these medications for longer periods pf time.

I believe we must study these drugs for years before giving them out like candy.

Pain- disease and stress

Research shows a significant correlation between stress and: memory problems, weight gain, irritability, trouble falling a sleep, headaches and illnesses.

Counseling and therapy can address emotional issues that trigger stress. Counseling can teach us tools to regulate stress: visualization, imagery, meditation, cognitive behavioral techniques, progressive relaxation etc.

I believe a large number of physical
diseases manifest in our physical bodies due to unresolved stress and trauma.

Organic food and Health

A new study finds that organically grown tomatoes have higher levels of flavonoids, which may protect against cardiovascular disease.

I believe all the pesticides are creating new forms of disease in the US.

It is interesting to note that their are numerous countries that do not have diseases like multiple sclerosis and many more. Researchers believe the cows eat the grains that have pesticides and hence pass them on into the cows milk and meat.

Kids and height

The average height in the US has gone down two inches.

The research published in the June issue of Social Science Quarterly, suggests the blame may lie with America's poor diet and its expensive, inequitable health care system.

American children might consume more fast foods rich in fat that are low in essential micronutrient.

I believe there is a huge connection between diet and height as well as health that is passed on from parents to children.

What do you think?
