Anger-Health-Phoenix Az-anger and stress management

Anger can elevate blood pressure, increase the threat of: cancer, strokes, depression anxiety, and high blood pressure.

Angry individuals often seek relief: through dangerous activities like: drinking, smoking, and workaholism.
Anger is ultimately a cry of powerlessness.

Finding compassion for others whom are always angry is challenging. Recognizing dysfunctional behaviors and understanding their roots are coming from hurt and pain.

A person with continual episodes of anger has a five time greater chance of dying before 50.

At lifeworksaz www.lifeworksaz.com

Counseling and psychotherapy is used to help with: anger management; mood regulation; self esteem; relationships; depression, anxiety, grief, social skills, healthy communication, and healthy life choices. Lifeworksaz.com serves people in; Phoenix Metro, Scottsdale, Tempe, Cave Creek, Carefree, Glendale, Chandler, and Mesa Arizona.

Anger Management

It is healthy to release and express anger and other emotions. It is not ok to victimize someone with anger verbally or physically.

Releasing anger with physical effort as well as with the mental aspect is important. Stuffing anger is extremely unhealthy.

Venting anger is important as lomg as you do not hurt or harm others in the process. Shredding up a cardboard box, hammering nails, screaming into a pillow, punching a punching bag, and crying are all healthy ways to release anger.

Finding forgiveness is the biggest step in releasing anger. Forgiving the person who has "wronged" you and also forgiving yourself are huge.

Listen to your child each day regarding your child's day at school. Be respectful to teachers/ the school. We do not want to give chilldren the perception we are cleaning up their mess. We need to teach accountability and responsibility.

Ask the school for an FBA Functional Behavior Assessment.
An FBA looks at what happens before the "bad" behavior and what the consequences are for the bad behavior. Conducting an FBA and writing a behavior plan is the best way to head off discipline problems.

Teenager Dies after Breast Surgery

An 18 year old girl died after having breast implant surgery. Reports state it was a rare event, however, women throughout the world have died due to silicon implants. Women have come down with a variety of diseases attributed to breast implants: lupus, scleroderma and more...

This is a tragedy. Many women and men have died undergoing uneeded risky medical procedures in an attempt to "look better" "look younger" and feel accepted in society.

The real tragedy is society/media's emphasis on "large breasts", tight skin, no fat etc.... Society needs to feel good about their bodies and love and accept themselves.

Poor self esteem and a lack of self love propels young girls and women to seek out: breast surgery, liposuction, face lifts and more.

If big breasts and tight skin is all we want in life then this is a sad commentary on our society.

We must build our children's self esteem through their unique qualities/abilities..We must love and accept ourselves and our children.
We must love ourselves as adults so we do not teach our children that we have empty souls/and that surgery will fill us with happiness and fill our voids...this is a lie!!!!!

Child Misbehaving

Instead of focusing on changing your child's behavior a parent should work on improving your relationship with your child.

Instead of focusing on changing the child's specific behavior a parent can focus their energy on giving your child positive feedback and prasising them for making an effort or being a team player.

Tips to Reduce Anger for Child-Teen-Families.

Teenagers Anger Adolescent Violence.

Bipolar-Depression-Mood

I read any interesting article on Bipolar Disorder in New York magazine called Are you Bipolar? The article was written by Vanessa Grigoriadis.

" As much as depression was the illness of the nineties, mild biplarity has become the new diagnosis for a slice of society that includes hard-to-treat depressives and some with a personality disposition that hedges into ordinary moodiness. Actually many doctors believe that the widedspread prescription of antidepressants, "As more and more bipolarity is being exposed, because anyone who becomes hypomanic on antidepressants is bipolar" says Ivan Goldberg, a psychiatrist with offices on the Upper East Side.

The psychiatric community is split on this expanding palette of diagnoses. "The heart of the controversy is that a lot of clinicians throw rigor out the window when they assume that any patient with irritablilty and mood symptoms automatically has bipolar disorder." Says Joseph Goldberg. "It's fair to ask the question as a kind of hypothesis, but it remains a clinical diagnosis, without laboratory tests to validate it, and it can be overdiagnosed."

We know that behaviors that are rewarded, or reinforced appear to increase.

If a parent praises his/her child for picking up his toys chances are he will remember to pick up toys more often.

If the rule is no video games before homework and you také away video games each time he does not sit down and do his homework eventually he/she will learn to do homework so the child can play his video game. The object taken away must have a strong value to the child in theory in order for this process to work.

Some believe children become depressed by observing events around him/her. These events may be modeling depressive thoughts and behaviors.

"An estimated 10 percent of men and women are taking drugs to cope with depression.

Increasing numbers of Americans have been prescribed antidepressants and this is the only mental health care received.

A study showed that 43 percent of those prescribed antidepressants in private health insurance had no psychiatric diagnosis.

Between 1987-1997 pharmacological treatment for depression doubled, the number of psychotherapy visits for depression decreased as cited in the Jan 9, 2002 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Poem on Character, Values, Ethics, Respect, Relationships....

Author unknown

When you get what you want in your struggle for self

And the world makes you king for a day,

Just go to a mirror and look at yourself

And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife

Whose judgment upon you must pass,

The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the one staring back from the glass.

Some people might think your'e a straight-shootin' chum

And call you a wonderful guy.

But the man in the glass says you are only a bum

If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest,

For he's with you clear to the end,

And you've passed your most dangerous test

If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years

And get pats on the back as you pass,

But your final reward will be heartache and tears

If you have cheated the man in the glass.

TV impacts Prescription Drugs

It is amazing how powerful TV advertising is over people.

Prescription drug adds motivate 33 percent of Americans to ask their physician for advertised medicine.

It is fascinating that 82 percent who asked their physician for medication were prescribed a medication.

Americans need to research the pros and cons of medications. Citizens need to be aware of side effects and may want to see if the drug has been tested for a long period of time with positive results. People should ask their physician as much as they can so they can be aware of potential medications. People should také time and research what they might be ingesting.

ADHD: Ritalin, Straterra, Adderall.

Many children in Phoenix Az are on ADHD medications. ADHD medications are not a substitute for healthy choices, healthy boundaries, ethics, values, accountability, team work, and more. Counseling and parenting can help with ADHD symptoms.

The FDA has a web site that alerts users of ADHD medications on psychiatric problems, such as hearing voices and manic behavior, of which there is a slightly increased risk in patients who také the drugs, the agency states. The guide alerts patients and parents of the risks of mental and heart problems, including sudden death.

It is important to look at the pros and cons of medications so you have knowledge. Knowledge is power.

ADHD

Many children have challenges with behaviors that might look like ADHD.
The reality is your child can learn to stay calm, learn to modify his/her behavior. ADHD is a label that will not benifit your child. The best approach is to focus on your child's strength and to help modify "challenging" behaviors.

Healthy choices make ADHD symptoms diminish. Behavior Modification, empowering your child to make healthy choices and teaching him/her schools is vital.
