A !9 year old teen involved in killing 8 people was using antidepressants and has many concerned. A teen in the Columbine tragedy was reported to be using antidepressants as well.

The NIH states antidepressants can help improve a persons’s mood, sleep, appetite, and concentration. It is required that manufacturers carry strong warning labels about antidepressants possible link to suicidal behavior in children, teens, adolescents,a nd young adults ages 18-24.

The FDA states that antidepressants may cause suicidal thinking and behavior. A recent analysis shows children on antidepressants were more likely to have suicidal thoughts or behavior compared to children taking a sugar pill.

" In a long-awaited analysis, health officials reported yesterday that antidepressant medication appeared to increase significantly the risk of suicide attempts and related behaviors in adults under 25, while reducing such risks in older people. The analysis, the most comprehensive and rigorous to date, found that suicidal behavior of any kind was rare, and that people taking the medications were no more likely to kill themselves than those taking placebo pills. But adults under 25 taking the drugs were more than twice as likely as those on placebos to report a suicide attempt, or to prepare for one by, say, writing a suicide note."
