Parents can model healthy behavior with their children in relation to foods that are purchased for the home as well as foods purchased when going out to eat. This is the strongest way to introduce healthy eating habits .

Parents can encourage children to go outside and exercise daily . Bring children to the gym , go hiking, join sports organizations , dance classes etc.

A panel states that obesity can be treated for children and teens.

Intensive treatment for six months can help children lose weight,
avoid serious health problems , and make them less prone to diabetes.

Psychotherapy and counseling combined with daily exercise and healthy
eating works.

Physical activity is essential. Limiting: Internet, Tv, video games is

Children Over Weight Obesity Teens Obesity Phoenix AZ USA

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Obesity amongst children and teens are on the rise. There are a number of factors that play into obesity.

Purchasing unhealthy foods and having them in the kitchen is a behavior that must stop.
If a child or teen has accessibility to: sugared cereals, candy, sodas, cookies, chips, chocolates, cheeses, foods with a lot of salt then they will more than likely eat them on a regular basis. Red meats are also high in fats. Too many carbohydrates can turn to fat.

Parents can purchase a very limited amount of “sweets’ and purchase healthy foods so a child or teen can learn what healthy eating is all about…sure we all would love to eat cheese daily and eat sugared cereals daily and ice cream but this habit will create obesity or being overweight.

It is hard to look at our unhealthy behaviors an admit we need to eat smaller portions of foods and replace fatty and salty foods with healthier foods when we have created unhealthy patterns.

We must set limits and set boundaries and take full accountability for unhealthy behaviors. It is about balance and health. Research shows so many potential health problems when we are obese and overweight. Heart problems, high cholesterol, back problems and pains, knee pains and issues, diabetes issues and so many more..
Empower yourself with healthy thoughts and follow your healthy thoughts daily like you would with getting enough sleep. Your body is your temple and it all starts with your thoughts. Denial is not the answer.

Many children are overweight and obese due to a variety of factors: poor boundaries, poor food choices by parents and schools, lack of physical exercise in school, video game playing all day, talking on the cell phone and texting all day, TV with hundreds of choices, and the bombardment of commercials that promote eating and drinking sodas.

We must have self control. If we purchase: nuts, and ice cream , and unhealthy cereals, and we have it all the time with limited self control then we will gain weight. If we have soda around the house instead of natural juices or water then we will consume what is around the house. We can limit the portions we are eating. We do not need to eat so much….

Parents an families can create boundaries. Boundaries are the key here. Parents can limit TV and cell phone use..parents can limit TV and computer use. Parents can push exercise before a child is rewarded with cell phone use, TV, internet, video games. Yes behavior modification takes work but it will be worth it in the end. There are cell phone programs that allow a parent to control when the cell phone is on as well as internet access…
